Psychro Diktaean Cave of Zeus in Pictures

The stunning Cave of Zeus (also known as Diktaean or Psychro Cave) is located on the northern slope of Mount Dikti, at an altitude of 1025 m, above the village Psychro in the Lassithi Plateau. Starting from this village, a 15-minute footpath leads up to the cave, offering breathtaking views of the Lassithi Plateau, particularly from the entrance level. The cave, with an area of 2200 sq.m, is accessible for tourists on a 250 m well-designed lit path.

Legend says that here Zeus was born and raised and for this reason, it is also called the “Bethlehem of the Ancient World”. Due to this myth, but equally, for its spectacular beauty, speleological, and historical value, it is the most visited cave and one of the top 10 things to do on the island.

If you are vacationing with kids on the east of the island, it is worth adding to your bucket list. Psychro village and cave are easily accessible, at only 27 km south of Malia, 60 km south-east of Heraklion, and 55 km west of Agios Nikolaos.

Enjoy the pictures!
